Colonel Lorenzo D. Gasser

…commanded the 31st Infantry in the Philippines and Shanghai from June 1931 to March 1934 (33 months).

Colonel Gasser was born in 1876 in Ohio, was commissioned in the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, served in the Spanish-American War and World War I, served as Deputy chief of Staff of the Army from 1939 to 1940, retired as a major general in 1940, was recalled to active service in 1941 to head the War Department Manpower Board, retired again in 1945, died in 1955, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
