Iraq 2009-2010
Members of the Regiment and Polar Bear Friends,
Here's a picture from Camp Buering in Kuwait, where the 4th Polar Bears have been preparing to "cross the berm" into Iraq over the past two weeks.
This is the only graffiti CSM Jones and I will allow.
As you can see, the esprit that has been the hallmark of the 31st Regiment for almost a century, is alive and well today. Currently, the 4th Battalion is almost closed in on our bases in rural Salman Pak and Wahida areas of East Baghdad. 1-505 PIR from the 82d Airborne Division is passing the mission off to us. It will be a great deployment. We are partnered with the Iraqi Army's 45th Infantry Brigade; a tough and capable formation that is firmly in the lead. Security is solid and the future looks very bright for the Iraqi people...with nation-wide parliamentary elections planned for January. The word "democracy" seems to be on everyone's lips here...it's remarkable to behold. The Polar Bears will do our part to "protect the win" and bring this great endeavor to a successful conclusion. On behalf each Polar Bear here, thank you for your love and support...we gain strength, resolve, and courage from it.
More will follow in the next issue of Polar Bear Tracks; until then, be well and rest easy...your Polar Bears are on point.
Pro Patria,
LTC Rich Greene
